14 Bolt Detroit and Gear Question

when you say higher you mean higher numerically? IE 4.88 or 5.13? or do you mean higher gear ratio wise, IE 3.73 or something like that?

the 14 bolt carrier break is 4.10 and down, and 4.56 up, so yes, if you want 4.56, 4.88, 5.13, or whatever, you need a new detroit

The Detriot for the 14FF bolt is a drop in style, it replaces the spider gears much like (though not exactly) a lunch box locker. So a carrier change is all that is needed, not the detroit itsself. Personally I have had very bad luck with Detroits, especially in the 14 bolt FF.

Well since all i have to do is get the thick gears then thats the route I'll go, all I have to do is wait for them to start selling the thick 5.38's 4 wheeler supply has em listed but when you click on it it says product not found so assume they are not in yet or something, but oh well I won't be buying gears for a while anyway

5.13 is the highest a GM case will allow. Don't hold your breath for 5.38's.

FYI.... Thick cut 5.13s have been on backorder for several months. At least from Randys.

Why do you say that? I'm not kidding when I say the 2006 yukon catalogue has them listed.

They list them for the 11.5" AAM 14 bolt (99-current 2500-3500 GM trucks), not the common older Coporate 10.5" 14 bolt (73-98).

I was assuming you are referring to the 10.5" version. If you have the 11.5" version, have fun with your 5.38's! :driver:
