Precursor to another thread that will be coming soon.

In my yj I'm running and '86 14 bolt out of a CUCV.

It came with 4.56 and Detroit. I'm currently running 5.38's on a Yukon full spool.

The 5.38s are thick cut, requiring the spool to be 4.10 and down dimensions.

Can anyone confirm that if I find a 4.10 open carrier, I can swap the Detroit from my 4.56 carrier on the shelf?

Trying to get a better turning radius.

If this will work, it will save me tons of $$$ buy only needing to find a 4.10 carrier and not having to buy a different Detroit $500, or swap to arb ($1300) to just to be able to get the rear to unlock and turn sharper.

Thanks

I don't see why not. Being the Detroit is a lunch box style in those it should work. All websites I see a Detroit listed for 14 bolt says its for all ratios.

Thanks, hadn't thought about researching it that way.

I'm assuming all 10.5" 14bolt open/Detroit carriers are all the same then.

Meaning you can put a Detroit in any open carrier, ie: no specific carrier for the Detroit to fit.

Only reason I knew is because I've been locker shopping for my 14 bolt. Not sure how long this gov-lock is going to live. But yeah, keeping my eyes open for a cucv Detroit takeout.

I wonder if it will also replace my Gov-bomb in my 04 Avalanche 2500? Haha, I called chase a while back and asked about it chattering while towing, on take off, and we both agreed its ticking.... changed oil, and used two bottles of additive. been pretty quiet ever since, but I know the clock is ticking

I think I'll have to find an open carrier when I do set up gears. Pretty sure a gov lock carrier is a full deal. I'm doing thick cut 5.38s also. I know a 4.10 down carrier is easy enough to find. I don't think the gov lock will like a 6.0 and 42s
