I'm trying to figure out if all 14 bolts have the pinion offset to the passenger side. I'm building one for my JK and it is extremely tight with the gas tank where it is. and it looks like the axle I have is offset about 1.5" to the passenger side. The axle is supposed to be out of a 3500 SRW 90-91 Chevy. There is so much info out there that I'm having a hard time weeding through it. I have the axle all apart and shaved already but I sure don't want to go through the trouble of setting it all up and then finding out there is a centered housing.

My van width is dang near centered. Its from a 93 G30 church van. Only downside (for some) is the width, coming in at 70" wms.

Upon further investigation, I had that backwards. On passenger side measuring from inside of 4 bolt flange to center of pinion, I'm getting ~27". On the driver side from 4 bolt flange to center of pinion I'm getting like ~29.5" its actually the whole center section itself that's more centered.

Just out of curiosity, did your new style have a drain plug in the bottom? If so, how did you go about shaving "around" that? We just did a 2000 van width 14 swap in a YJ and we saw that it had a drain plug there and slide-on drums, which my 93 did not. I was under the impression all the 88'+ had slide on but its 50/50 at random.

Checking the 14 Bolt Bible seems to indicate that the pinion is offset 3 inches no matter what the axle is out of. Difference between left/right shafts is 6". I suppose you could purchase a van width and cut it down to get the pinion centered.

Mine had slide on drums. As for the drain plug I shaved the bottom then put the drain plug in and cut it flush. After that I welded it from the inside and smoothed it out. I actually have the TMR shave kit but chose not to use it. I didn't feel like going through the extra work. I would have only picked up a little more because I didn't plan to shave the ring gear.

I was thinking that they were all offset because the axles are different lengths.

I've referenced that a bunch and never noticed the offset but I was never really specifically looking for it either.

I'm noticing the difference in axle tube length and center section location between your truck width and the van widths.
Here's the 2000 model I was referring to.

If that helps any.
