does the 9.5 sf 14b have the same enclosed type carrier as the 10.5 14b ff, or is it the more conventional exposed/open type?

also, i know there is a tag/sticker on the 88-98 gm trucks that denotes the gear ratio and whether or not it's got the g80 (gov lock) or not. i can't remember where though? the specific truck in question is a 96 suburban c2500.

check the glovebox, there is a sticker w/ all the build code data, just look for "g80", can't help you on the ratio though

cool. it should have the ratio also iirc...

Gear Ratios

Ratio codes are as follows:
GU2 - 2.73
GU4 - 3.08
GU6 - 3.42
GT4 - 3.73
GT5 - 4.11
The G80 code will be right next to the ratio code, if the truck has it. Hope this helps. These axle codes are the same in all GM trucks from 1982 up to now.

thanks, i found it.

i also figured out the carrier is an open style. i'm still wondering if the gov lock carrier is the same as the open carrier? it appears to be from pictures, but i can't tell for sure.

i dont think it would be the same as it has alot of pins and such that run across for the mechanism that engages the locker.
but than again could be wrong.
just know it aint the same on the s10.

The carriers are different on the open and the gov lock
