I've been looking around for a 14-bolt FF with 3.42 or 3.21 gears for a few months now. In my search, I've turned up a few rear end. Not being a 14-bolt expert,I've got a few questions about a couple of rears.
First, I found a 14-bolt FF with 4.10 gears and limited slip differential (according to the option list on the glove box). It's out of a 85 GMC 3/4 ton truck. The guy's wanting $350. That seems a little high to me, but I don't know what the factory limited slip adds to the value. What do you guys think?
Secondly, I found a junk yard with a number of 3/4 ton Chevy vans. There are two vans with 14-bolt FF rears. According to the label on the hood, one of them is a 4.10.
I'm more into stock 4x4s. What is the deal with the van 14-bolts? Are they a different width? What are the spacings on the spring perches, and are these the same as 3/4 ton or 1-ton trucks? The price on the 14-bolt van rears is more reasonable, $200 each.
I also found a 14-bolt rear out of an 89 Suburban at the same junk yard, but I don't know what ratio it is. The glove box emblem was gone. It was a big block 2WD according to the VIN. Does anyone have a book that would tell me what the standard axle ratio is for that setup.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
