So an ad went up for a $150 1995 ZJ. I shook the couch cushions and brought it home.
Bought from @4LowandSlow and his dad @fourtrax (great folks and best of luck to @4LowandSlow in his military career!!)
1995 Jeep grand cherokee
5.2
Auto
NP 249
LP D30 front
D35 rear
Mismatched quality tires
Sitting on some sort of 3” ish lift with adjustable control arms and adjustable track bars F&R

Plans: clean it up a bit and wheel it for at least the vet ride and the G2G

Got it home and parked it.

Initial diagnosis.
GOOD:
-seems that all windows and HVAC work (AC will get looked at as it’s all in tact and I’m bougie like that)
-all carpet and headliner are gone
-starts and drives
-lift seems ok ish.
-has extended earls soft brake lines to accommodate the lift
-doesn’t seem to leak (much)

BAD-ish:
-needs alternator
-needs front driveshaft addressed (CV at the front axle is FUBAR)
-needs shocks all the way around
-front passenger hard brake line needs replaced out to the point it meets up to the soft line.
-needs a good grubbing out

Also: met up with @Scott86MJ for a set of rear bilstien shocks he so graciously donated to the cause. I’m realizing they aren’t going to work (length too short) so they will be available for free to anyone in need. I’ll get measurements and post them up. Probably bring them to the upcoming URE rides if anyone is interested.

MASSIVE UPDATE!!! while waiting on my steaks and scrimps at the tejas hoe house I walked across the parking lot and got me a new tubing cutter and a small line tubing bender for under $10 from the hobo freight. Win for all parts of the scruggle. Tomorrow shall see how it works correcting the brake line fubar.

I would have to measure resting height.
Let me know dude. As soon as I can slow down and it’s cooler in the mountains, I’m probably putting 90% of my shed in the trash. I want a clean slate and no clutter.

Man that's awesome! There was a summer while I was in college where me and my friend group fell into 3 free, or almost free, xjs and we had some nice tight forest trails with a creek running through it on some private property. Hands down the best time I ever had wheeling, I don't think they ever came off full throttle. It got to the point where we were questioning why we were even building crawlers

Tldr: super cheap unibody jeeps are God tier wheelers and I'm jealous.

Please tell me you didn’t go to Scott’s place and not go another 2 miles down the road to mine. I would have given you more jeep stuff you didn’t need, and a cold beer and supper!

No good sir I didn’t make it to land that invented the tape measure. Scott was over here in the sand hill region and was gracious enough to meet me along his travels!

I've got Lisa's old 3.5" Rustys shocks taking up space in my shop
Rear shock ride height measurement from the top stud on the body to axle mount is 22”

Well, the union I put in the brake line didn’t work. I guess I didn’t get a good bubble flare in the factory steel line and it leaked. Tore it all out today and ran a complete line from the ABS pump to the front pax side wheel. No more leaks. No pictures but you get the idea.
