Grandpa was a Seabee, 18th Battalion, assigned to the Marines. He served on Tinian, Tarawa, and other islands. Worked to help build the doodlebug. And laid down Marsden (sp?) matting (is that the right term?) so a certain bomber could land, refuel, and continue to Japan...

My grandad was a Seabee. He never talked about it.
