Just replaced clutch release rod and ordered release cable. Jeep is grinding when attempting to put in gear. Does this sound like an adjustment problem. I cannot get the clutch to release. Hoping this is an easy fix. Any help.....will help. Thanks Chris

sounds like a slave cylinder or master

I doubt its a hydraulic clutch set up....

Sounds like a bad synchro possibly but a little more info would help

How much play do you hvae on the throw out fork when the pedal is up? Tighten the adjustment until there is maybe a touch of play. If you have alot of play, when you push the pedal in you will first tighten up the slack and then activate the throwout fork, and you may not get enough throw.

X2.

thanks for your help, yeah there is a lot of play in the clutch. It was stiff before the clutch cable broke. Could this be a transmission issue of does it sound like just a clutch problem. What part of the clutch should be replaced or should the whole thing be replaced. thanks, Chris

sounds like a clutch problem. The cables can stretch. Is this a one peice cable? or is to going from a bellcrank on the Tcase up to the fork? There were later one peice cables that were junk, but you year jeep you shouldnt have it unless somebody swapped it in.

yeah it is a one piece cable. I haven't done anything to the clutch so it is new to me. I am just trying to figure out where to start with the clutch or should the whole clutch be replaced.
