hello guys, have some questions for yall, needing some help. like the title says, ive got a 77 half ton with 10 in lift, 42's and 3.73's right now. im trying to figure out if i should just go to three quarter ton, one ton, or look for some rockwells. the truck will see some mud just not a rediculous amount. and will be mainly driven on the road, i just want to know that when i do put it in the mud its gonna hold up. and i want it to go! lol im thinking with the granny four speed i wanna go with 456 gears cause im planning on down sizing on tires to probably a 38.5 or 39.5. any help would be great! also if someone knows anyone getting rid of this stuff lemmie know.

thanks ahead of time,

Tripp

Go one tons, 3/4 ton is just an 8 lug D44. Go D60 and 14 bolt and you should be ok as long as respect the skinny pedal. I'm pretty sure though you still might need to do a little upgradin if your gonna run 42's.

My .02, The open D60 front and locked GM14 bolt out of maybe a CUCV Mil. truck would hold up just fine even on 42s, and they mostly come with 4.56 gears. The thing to work on would be dropping the lift down maybe 6" susp. and 2" body lift. This will reduce yer drive angles and steering issues, also I would consider crossover steering, a basic and inexspensive mod. that makes a world of difference on and offroad. Good luck.

My old rig was a 83 k20 and i went full 1 ton running 39.5 on hummers and thing rode great but my lift was through DIY4X.com all stock suspension just backets and 52"swap = 8" lift. Rode great did awesome offroad and loved mud. Biggest thing I ran into was weight, those beds weigh a s*** ton, so maybe some bobbin or trimming is in order. Like they said above also, RESPECT THE SKINNY PEDAL :)

My .02

Also if you dont have a 205 t-case, get one, it'll save you some headache and $$$$
