Figured Id start a build thread to keep some pics of the truck together, info that I may forget, and ideas from you guys. Picked up a 1985 pickup roller back in February to get back into wheeling since selling my SAS'd tacoma and Polaris RZR. Got the roller home and sure enough the frame had rot in it, so out comes the sawzall.

Anyway onto pics

The day I brought it home

Took the cab off, cut the frame about a foot in front of the rot and started on the new rails.

Scraped the white cab since it had a sunroof and had an idea to put a extended cab on the standard cab frame, was told about a local guy that has anything toyota and got in touch with him to go pick up a 89 extended cab. Get to his place and fell in love with the looks of a first gen and picked up a 2wd 1980 rust free cab.

Wheel base will be 108" engine thats going in is a VW 1.6 turbo diesel with the toyota 5 speed and stock case with a 4.7 gear (may go with stock geared dual cases), going to run 35's with 5.29's. Ill up load some more pics when time allows or more progress. Lets hear your thoughts weather it looks like shit or looks good all criticism is welcome.

Looks like you're no stranger to fab work. Love the first gen, makes me miss mine. Looking forward to seeing where this goes

Why not use the 4.7 case for the duals? What tires will you be running?

I don't have the 4.7 gear yet thats why I say may use two stock cases. Ordered a set of Pro comp Xtreme M/T 2 today, I was going to go with the MTr's but have heard awesome things about the pro comps and plus they were a good bit cheaper

Thanks bud, the funny part is I believe you own my old tacoma. I can't claim all the work on this truck my buddy is doing most of the work.

Haha that's funny. Was this what it looked like when it was yours?

Oh and if your buddy doing the fab is the same one that built the rear frame on my taco I hope he gets it a little more level and square on yours haha.

Different guy, this one built race chassis for a few years and now works at kooks custom headers.

As bad as it sounds the rear of the taco was thrown together because someone said they wanted to buy it with a flat bed and not truggied then backed out.

Yup that's my pic at URE

Yeah that's pretty apparent lol. I cut it all apart a few months ago and squared it up. Truck has come a hell of a long way since I got it in Jan. You need to get this thing knocked out and we'll go wheel!

hell yeah! I follow you on instagram and seen the truck, you did a nice job on the exo. Hoping to be able to to get it finished up before the end of winter just depends if I can find parts to rebuild the turbo diesel. I may throw it together with a 22r in it just to shake it down and do the engine swap next year.

Tires got delivered the other day, still waiting on the rest of my wheels but I had to roll them over and see how they look.

Put the 22r back in and i'm just going to run it for a while, may convert it to EFI if I can find everything. Got the steering box mount made and holes drilled in the frame. Put the front box mounting hole about 1in from the front body mount and stood the box vertical. Will be finishing the plating on the front frame rails this week then it'll be back a roller.

Project looks good. Been following on Pirate. Look into just going to a 2 or 3RZ when you want to do EFI. If you have to go through all the wiring/gauges/etc then might as well get a few more HP's out of it.

My project kind of stalled out over the holidays other things on my mind and the wifes car got hit while she was pulling into our driveway. Worked a bit on it over the weekend then messed up the strap on my bending die so I need to get a new one. Got some of my transmission crossmember bent up and tacked together, also got my wheels need to get everything mounted up and flex the suspension.
