1987 Comanche MJ info please.

I am going to look at an 87 MJ tomorrow. It it supposed to be a 4cyl 5spd 4wd. Don't know the miles or anything else. The lady on the phone did not seem to speak English very well. Anything to be on the lookout for, problem areas, places susceptible to rust? Any info would be great.
 
Check the floorboards.... if you cant pull the carpet, check with a screwdriver from the bottom, the rear cab corners can get pretty bad too, and around the rear fenders. I've owned 2 and both had rotten floorboards and fenders
 
pretty basic, cut out the old ones and weld in some replacement panels. They are Cherokee panels but will fit the same.

also check the bottoms of the doors. they rot pretty bad too. Front doors off a 4dr Cherokee will work. Cherokee buckets are not a direct swap, but all dash components are, so are fenders, grill, hood, windshield.....

I too have an 87 MJ 4cyl 5 spd 4wd. It should have 4:10 axles in it, so youre good there. The 2.5 is as reliable as the 4.0 as they are related. The AX5 trans is OK as long as you dont beat on it too much, same for the Dana 35 rear end. My best resource has been www.comancheclub.com . All the other info you want will be there. For power additions, look into www.4bangerjp.com . Also another great resource for 2.5 specific info. Good luck, and enjoy it, They are addictive though, so be careful!
 
Thanks guys for the info. I glanced at it today. It is a 4 speed manual. Not real fond of that. But, otherwise, it is, what looks to me, fantastic shape. The floorboards looked intact, and there was definitely no rust the the rear fenders. I didn't go over the front so well. Battery was dead, and at 17* it didn't even want to jump start, so I'm gonna go back Friday and check it out when it's a bit warmer.
 
I loved my lil MJ.... one of those kicking myself moments, but I wanted another wrangler....
