Hello! Im new here and very excited with the idea of a project jeep. I'm a bicycle tech, but do own a vw and have made major engine repairs on it. Please kindly give any input you may have for my upcoming project!

So, Thinking about buying this Jeep Cherokee as pictured below I would be getting a very good deal on it and I know that there would be a lot of work needed to get it running. the current owner gave a little bit of background on its condition I do know that the oil is not mounted and hasn't been for at least 2 years. In addition you see that ok at on the top the end it was covered with shop rag as was another part of the engine. The front drive shaft has also been removed because it was stuck in 4 wheel drive I know that the engine is going to need some work I'm told it was burning oil and that's what initiated the repair. What should I look out for?

Try this; you got bout $400, waiting for it, at the scrape yard. You could part it out, & might make some more, just take time, & labor. Or, find another Cherokee, running, & keep this one for parts.
Your basically getting it for free, but you could end up with more $$ in it, than it's worth.

I wouldn't mess with trying to repair. You could buy a running xj for less than $2k and as stated scrap/part out for $400+.

For $100 I would buy it. If the interior is good and it is for the most part rust free, drop a used engine/ tcase in good to go as they are cheap and normally available. I would not mess with trying to rebuild.

I don't know. If you've got time and a desire to learn, it looks like a decent project, and you can't beat the price! Swap in a good motor, rebuild the front axle and replace bushings while it's out, and enjoy it.
