I have a 1989 Jeep Comanche that I picked up in Nov 2009. It has been running great until today. I drove it earlier today and when I tried to drive it again, it just kept turning over and over. No spark! I've got fuel flow though just no boom! It actually happened to me a few weeks after I bought it and a guy I knew at the time reached his hand behind the engine and did something to get it to start. I have no clue what he did and now it's doing the same thing. Any help would be greatly appreciated because I don't have the money to have it fixed. Thanks to all that reply.

Thanks for the replies fellas! The truck is a straight 6 and 4X4, although the 4X4 is in questionable working order...lol! As far as the crankshaft position sensor, I was told that since the truck has a distributor it wouldn't have a crankshaft position sensor. I'm not sure of anything right now so I'm just gonna start at the coil and work backwards from there checking voltage.

Thanks for the ideas and keep 'em coming, I need all the help I can get.

Thanks.

Thanks.

It does have a CPS.. Someone may have cut the connectors off+twisted the wires on it, hence the fiddling.. Its on the Drivers side on the top of the bellhousing. not too hard to get to.

Replace the crank sensor. Its at the 11 o clock position, drivers side of the tranny bellhousing. Get one from the dealer (ours are better) and install it so the harness cannot short on the manifold.

I'll second MOPAR quality. Replaced a few "good" "new" AZ sensors after a few months. AZ was to show it had a CPS.

Thanks guys, I'll be doing all of the suggestions. Sounds to me like everything is leading to the CPS. I'll probably just go ahead and to a quick tune up on her too. I hope this is the issue. The only bad thing is she's parked in the snow with no garage around so it may get a little nipply!

Well guys, I found the CPS connection on the Bell Housing and it is totally caked with gunk, grease dirt and everything else that bounces off the road. I would think that alone could cause problems. I am now trying to locate where the opposite end of the connection is. I also checked, with a Volt Meter, the connections going into the Coil pack. There is voltage going into the pack just not coming out. I read that The CPS can have Low voltage so maybe that's the reason. In any case I hope I can find the problem and have it fixed by the end of the day.

Got it running!! I didn't change the CPS but found that it is an intermittent issue with it. I tried to change it but that sucker is so deep up inside that it's virtually impossible for me to get to the bolts. Anyway, it's working now and atleast I know what needs to be done.

Thanks to all that replied.
