1996 Nissan 2wd Truck Towing Capacity

dude, why would you want to trade your supposedly mechanically fine truck for a smaller truck with a bad throw out bearing to tow with and still has no extra back seats? just keep your truck!

always wanted a small 2wd pickup...
4cyl...3500lb towing capacity...I'd get the gas mileage I need and would be a good gas mileage truck to drive back and forth to work...and I could keep some miles off of my
CR-V. The CR-V is my "family" car...need to reduce some wear on it to make it last...
and my truck is mechanically fine...just not very gas friendly...and no A/C makes it not practical to shuttle 2 kids to daycare and me to work.

And I am not certain why I am defending myself...
I can replace a $12 throw out bearing myself...so not that concerned.
My dad and I dropped the transfer case and replaced the transmission on the F150...so no big deal on this either

I have a 97 2WD 4 cyl.

It's a great truck for general transportation and light occasional hauling/towing. My uncle had the same truck I have (we bought ours a month apart, both new) and he had almost killed his @ 125k from towing farm equipment on occasion. I'd say the actual towing capacity is more like 2000lbs. The Clutch was on its way out, timing chain was stretched, and something in the valvetrain sounded terrible.. He sold it and got a Z71, no more problems, but it drinks gas. If you want something with a little ass get something else. Gas mileage isn't great, I get around 25 or slightly less with a feather foot and a 5 speed. The timing chain tensioner is notorious for going bad and the lifters are loud (especially while the engine is cold - just the way the KA24E engine is). Shifter boot is also bad about leaking, looks like a bad output seal but it's the shifter boot. They seem to crack/leak every 5 years or so.

I have 95k on mine and the most I've had in the bed is about 1000 lbs for a 6 mile trip. Thats about the limit. Small landscaping projects, hauling off trash, small trailer with a lawn mower - no prob.
