1997 Dodge Transmission

I am looking to buy my own rig, and I found a 1997 Dodge Dakota V8 4x4 with a little over 200,000k (i know alot...) on it. However the owner says it has a transmission leak. Does anyone know how much it will cost to get fixed/if I can go it myself? Or is this even a huge problem? Any help greatly appreciated

Really need more info like where is the leaking coming from pan, output shaft, front of bellhousing, etc... but it will still be hard to diag online so your best bet would be to take it to a shop or a mechanically inclined friend. If he won't let you drive it by a shop before you buy it then there's probably more wrong that he's not wanting to tell, and in that case just leave the truck where its at. Good luck.

It being a 46r and having 200k on it, unless it's leaking because it has recently been rebuilt...just expect the trans to be shot.
