1997 Grand Cherokee

Might get more responses if you actually asked a question that can be answered.

too many miles for what? For building into a wheeler? for driving across country? Swapping what? What's the drive train? What's the year? too many variables....

^ exactly. is it a 4.0 or a 5.2? makes a difference because the 4.0 is far more reliable than the 5.2......i've had jeeps in the past with both.

are you sure the leak isnt coolant? usually when a water pump leaks....its coolant coming out. is the leak coming from the front of the engine or somewhere else under the vehicle. i mean it could be water from the AC from the info you gave.

also, grand cherokees are notorious for the t-case crapping out. not a big deal however since you can get used ones on here for cheap.

If its the 4.0 your good to go. I have read on other forums about the 4.0 going 300,000 and still running strong. Mine has 187,XXX on it and I would go anywhere with it.

Sorry guys...
1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 Inline 6 with 184K
I would use for occasional boat towing and family hauling.

I am guessing that they are saying that it leaks water when it is turned off...meaning coolant. I know about the A/C dripping...

and they state it comes from the water pump...which with the serpentine belt...that should be an easy fix...

I'll post some pics and the craigslist ad later...

And I'll be needing a trailer hitch unless the one from my truck will fit it...

the motor should be fine with those miles....but i couldnt say that much for the tranny or t-case. could go forever or could not.

if its leaking WATER, its not the water pump...the only thing that water comes from is the A/C....correct me if i am retarded and completely wrong anybody. but i in my experience have never seen water come from a water pump unless they are putting straight water in the radiator...

but either way, yes putting in a new water pump on a 4.0 is a very easy fix. and the WP only cost about 40 bucks.

and no, your f150 hitch wont fit, your f150 has a frame, the ZJ has a unibody.

Cool deal...
I just figured that they were calling the coolant "water"

You know how some people are...
I'm hoping that it is condensatipon from the A/C...but the GC belongs to a fireman...and I would think that they would know the difference...but if not...so be it.
Better for me to just have to get a trailer hitch and drive it...

Watch that Tranny if you're doing any towing. Jeep only put one good Auto tranny in the Grand Cherokees and that was in early '93 production models. The AW4, after that, they started putting in 42RE/RH and 45RE/RH's, pieces of junk in my book.

not to mention the Rear axle leaves much to be desired. D35's don't have much in the way of brakes especially for towing. What size boat?

My '93 has the 4.0 and 250K+ miles on it. burns a little oil, but still runs strong. If the engine was maintained properly, no reason you couldn't get another 184K out of it.

17' Renken...
It wouldn't be a long tow or a highway tow...
and it isn't a daily driver...
I really want a small 2wd truck...like the '96 Nissan on here...is a throw out bearing hard to replace?
