1997 Jeep Cherokee won't charge

Thinking of picking up a 1997 Cherokee with a 4.0L for cheap but the Battery won't charge. Haven't looked at it yet but researching and being proactive about a fix. Seller says its not the alternator. Any ideas?

If battery and Alt are both good my next bet would be the PCM (after thouroughly inspecting the wiring). I believe it regulates the voltage... If that doesn't do it there's a schematic and great info posted here http://www.jeepz.com/forum/cherokee...-1998-jeep-cherokee-not-charging-battery.html

The pcm does control the voltage. Has the engine ever been out ?? We have seen several where the wiring harness that runs across the back gets pinched causing a dead short.

I'm too nice...Went to look at it and took my volt meter and the guy let me check it out...long story short found loose wire on the alternator and told him to tighten it up and it runs great! Needless to say he's keeping it now. Guess I did my good deed for the day.
