I've only had the jeep a month and the transmission has done fine until last week. It started changing gears quickly and shuttering a little bit so I changed the filter & fluid. I found lots of shavings and a stopped up filter. After the fluid and filter change it started whining in gear and now seems like the torque converter is locked. It will idle fine in park or neutral but stalls with a loud clunk when put in drive or reverse.
I'm debating on replacing the torque converter and a fluid flush but was wondering if there are any chance of the transmission be ok?
Thanks for the input.

what were the shavings made of, brass, metal, aluminium, clutch material ?

just for future reference, when someone has a trans problem and decide to pull the pan, you should ask questions first and then snap a few pics of the pan after you drain the fluid out.

With the wire unplugged I can put it in reverse and drive and it stays running in gear but if I let the brake off it clunks and goes dead. The metal in the pan was some steel which was around the magnet in the pan but the filter had fine aluminum flakes in it and in the oil as well. The oil was black and smelt pretty bad.

Thanks for the help. I just bought one and I was wondering what's the best way to flush the lines and oil cooler before installing the transmission?
