1999 Dodge Durango

I never had a problem with the 5.2 that was in my dakota, and the tranny never gave up on me.
The only thing about some of them were the balljoints wearing out and actually breaking because that are a none greasable part.
I mean just keep tranny fluid changed, and oil in the engine, but others may have opinions.

I read about the ball joints, and front bearings...and other horror stories, but I am here to get info from real world people that I feel like I can trust

I mean i never had a problem with mine, but mine was 4x4, so i mean idk if that helps or whatever, but what things specific are you tryin to figure out?
Im just sayin that i put my dakota through more than a 2wd durango or dakota would go through and still dd'd it but itd be easier to give you answers if you say what you wanna know bout.
but the only onther thing i can think bout is possibly the intake gastkets.

Only problem I've had has been a bad trans valve body that warranty replaced for me. The biggest pita problem with the 5.2's was the plenum gasket, but if it's been fixed once it "should" be fine since the gasket was re-designed. I never had the problem twice in my 5.9 Dakota. Other than that, I've driven the hell out of the last 3 Dodges I've had with minimal issue out of the Durango, and the Ram. The Dakota had all grades of issues, but it was beaten like it owed me money, was bought out of a junk yard, and already had that wonderful "this vehicle has been re purchased from the original owner by chrysler corp. due to a customer satisfaction issue" decal in the door jamb.

Come on guys...I am rethinking this and I am leaning towards this Durango...what do you guys think?

THe guy swears it just needs a front passenger side wheel bearing. I just asked if they have all of their service records...

You can figure in similar reliability as a Ram p/u. Same engine, trans, and axles. There were some ball joint and wheel bearing issues, but my S-10 went through more bearings than the Durango could possibly ever eat up (114k on the clock, never replaced a suspension/chassis part other than shocks, even with the torsion bars maxed for 2 years and 35's on it)

If the p.o. has good service records with it, and the price is right, jump on it. If you are in doubt, there are TONS of them (including mine) for sale.

i had a 98 Dakota R/T with the 5.9 and the motor never gave me any issues. the trans started acting funny at the drag strip a few times (didn't want to shift out of first gear) but other than that it worked fine. i bought 4 new balljoints when they were talking about recalls, but only replaced one of them and never had issues with the others. only replaced the one b/c i lowered it and since i had all the suspension apart figured i'd go ahead and do it. took too long and didn't get to the others. though, by upgrading some items (tb, intake manifold, headers, exhaust, suspension, etc) made it fun as hell to drive :) i had it for about 4 years and put around 45k miles on it. had 124k when i sold it last summer.

206K miles? Fawk that especially on a V8. My .02

yes sir...
I currently stand at the following:
a 1993 Suburban 2wd with 148K
THe guy is trying to talk his wife into it.

So how big of deal is it to get the title transferred from out of state?

He needs an SC notary and I need an NC notary...correct?

No just a NC notary's seal will do. I transfered that s10 I had from my dads name to mine couple years back. He lived in georgia and I lived here. The notary signature here covered both signatures the lady at dmv said.

I forget all the details andrew but I know we only had one notary and she was here in nc and the title was a georgia title and that worker fine at the dmv.

I have a 99 durango, and at 155,000 miles the engine is still strong though it does eat a little oil (a quart a month). The transmission has not giving me any trouble yet, but I will say that it seems a little weak, specially in reverse. Ball joints are crap though lol.

the hole deal with the front end on durangos is that they used the same parts for the durango as they did the dakotas and they tend not to hold up to the weight about like putting a v8 in a ford ranger set up for a 4 cylinder engine
