I would rather borrow the taps. They seem to be from 185.00 to 375.00. Or would it be cheaper to have some one do this on a lathe. I did not want to use threaded inserts. I need to tap link tubing for threaded RE joints. I have to tap both ends of 8 links. All ideas are appreciated.

I can get the 1-14pt tap for under $40 on the truck, researching the 1-1/4 tap....

All good suggestions so far. I'll check the shop tomorrow, but it looks like you've got options already. Are you looking for L&R threads, or just right?

Damn... nice find.

Don't order that one! It's a bottoming tap. I will not start or cut threads very well. Its made to bottom tap holes.

For all the nay sayers.......Yes it will work, but it will be lots of work, and not stay sharp very long.

thats true but they do have some that are tapered for the same price. just look around on the website, you'll find what you need.

tapered tap for cutting new threads: http://www.wttool.com/product-exec/product_id/25133/nm/Industrial_Quality_Taper_Hand_Tap_WT_Import_

I use bottoming ones as I never thread anything that big myself, just chase the threads, but they have fair prices on home-use/hobby type taps.

If you're a machine shop that'll make a lot of parts, buy a quality tap. If you are going to thread maybe 4-5 things now and don't know when you'll use it again (if ever), just get the cheap one.
