My original 20r is worn out and it's time for a new motor. I have a 1980 Toyota pickup and I'm wanting to do a fuel injected motor swap. I've been leaning towards a 4.3 or possibly a 5.3. I'm just curious what swaps people have done to these trucks before. Did you use the Toyota trans/tcase? Any info would help me out. Thanks!

The easiest was prob be a 22RE or a 2RZ/3RZ. The latter of the two require new motor mounts but the RE should bolt in fine. The wiring wouldn't be terrible if you had a complete donor harness. I can't remember what years came with the 4 spd instead of 5spd. If is a 4spd a w56 swap would be your best bet.

What's your plans for the truck, a 5.3 or 4.3 have more than double the power of a 20R and would break drivetrain components with ease. For either of those a TH350 or TH400 may be your most cost effective choice.

I basically use the truck to take the trash off/grab parts in town and trail ride every now and then. I'm wanting more power than a 4 cyl.

3rz ftw. They love boost too. Mine thinks it's a race car and makes cool noises

What he said ^^. They are all pretty much the same. 2rz would be a good swap too, it's a 2.4 instead of a 2.7
