This seems like the right venue -
I am really new to the Jeep culture. I bought a 97TJ a few years ago, but left it basically stock. My goal is to make a few mild changes:
A suspention lift - Nothing to aggressive, yet still functional.
A body lift - nothing more than 2" (I hate the gaps)
rock sliders (Cuz URE can be tough on the tub)
And replace my new 31s w/ 33s (new rims as well - my current rims allow the 31s to rub the LCAs).
Rough Country offers a 2.5" system but I dont see many people discussing the "Rough Country" lifts in NC4x4forums. The cost seems reasonable compared to RE or OME. It comes with a new 2.2 shock that has good reviews. But I don't want to make a $300.00 mistake!
I have read in a different forum that this 2.5" RC lift along w/ a 2" BL will let me slip 33s in the wells w/ a 3.75 BS on the wheels.
Spacer lifts don't excite me but I welcome all feedback - And please consider I am a middle class worker who relies on this as a daily driver

I had a 2in body and 2in coil spacer (budget boost) lift with 33's on my 99 tj and hated the body lift...too top heavy and squirly on the road. I replaced both with a 4in Rough Country lift (approx $600) 2.5 years ago and it has worked fine for me. People have complained about that lift being too stiff...you're in a lifted Jeep!!!
Hope that helps

IMHO the rough country lift is garbage and so is the body lift idea.

You are looking at spending 750-800 bucks anyways to get that 4.5" of lift so why not do it right the first time? You will hate your jeep in so many ways if you do it that way. My suggestion is to go with the re 3.5" or 4.5" kit. The 3.5" is fairly inexpensive. I see nothing listed about a sye or driveshafts? Anything over 3" and you are going to need to go that route imho or atleast plan to spend for it. You just opened up a can of money worms but I'll be darned if I'd ride around in a tj with a 2"body lift and a rough crap lift below it. :poop:

get 2" spacers,new shocks, 1.25" body lift(optional) and you'll fit the 33's just fine
you don't need the 4" just for 33's....

Thanks everyone - seems like the majority thinks the RC 2.5 idea is a waste time and money. BDS - I'm assuming is a Black Diamond? Reading a few reviews on here and another forum, BDS didnt seem well received either. I guess I am almost overwhelmed w/ the choices. BDS has a 3" kit that isnt' too far off price from RC, but it doesn't offer qwik links, brake lines, or track bars - just brackets.
I guess my question is how does everyone pick a "loyalty" w/o doing multiple purchases and installs until they get it right!!!
I didnt bother to include the SYE or the CV driveshaft because it seemed like a given.

I guess I have a bunch of non-bias research to do.
Thanks Again

actually bds is not black diamond, which confused me at first. black diamond is made by superlift. ive got a 3.5 black diamond + .5 shackles on my yj, and i think bds is better quality from what i have heard.

Ive got a 2.25" BB with skyjacker hydro shocks riding on 33's. Still waiting for time to put on my 1.25 JKS BL.

Im running 33X10.50's now and have no issues....but Ive not been to UNF yet...waiting on the BL and some rocker guards.

The 1.25" BL does get your attention like a 2" does.

Ill have 3 1/2" when Im done and will be good with that till I decide to not daily drive my rig.

2.5 in rough country lift

I just installed a 2.5 in RC lift, it came with the 2.2 per shocks. So far so good, it is defiantely a rough ride, however it was easy to install and at $249, I couldn't pass it up. If all your trying to do is have a little fun, throw some mud and climb some hills, I don't see why the RC is a bad buy, or you could drop some serious money and make a nice crawler, or do a good budget lift and still have some fun. The 2.5 in RC will definately clear 33s. I gained almost 3 inches on the 2.5 inch lift, 33s will give you another 2 inches, so pass on the body lift and get 4 1/2 to 5 inches of added clearance and a lower center of gravity without the body lift.

Just my 2 cents and experience with the RC lift.

I had a 2in skyjacker coil spacers and they cleared my 32 fine and I went to uwh plenty of times and never had a problem but now I'm going 4in lift I put together myself by buying the pieces for nc and I've only spent $400 and its great
