Alright knowing how good you are with a welder and how much you like bacon....not sure if this is a recomendation or tech question thread. If this is too basic weld some bacon between two pieces of brread and get ovver it.
1- If your cable modem provided by the company only has 1 output and you want to run two computers you need a router.
2- If it is 2 desktops you want connected you will need to run cabling from the 2 pc locations to the router and from the cable modem to the router
3- If one of the computers if a laptop or you have a wii, blackberry, iphone, wireless dvd server etc. you need a router with wireless capabilities.
4- Linksys makes some fairly crappy products, but they are cheap, widely available and so common that they ae almost universally supported.
5- If you go wireless only your desktops may not support wifi and you may have to add hardware. Some newer ones have it built it, for me I would want it hardwired, a lil faster and less headaches
