I'll go ahead and apologize if this is in the wrong place but it's not super techy and it's about referrals so we'll see.

#1 - I have a 465 transmission that kicks out of 3rd all the time and now 1st is starting to let go too. Should I rebuild it or just buy another from a junkyard.
Rebuild - $500+
Junkyard - $150 but no guarentee it'll run any better.

#2 - If I do decide to rebuild it does anyone have any good referrals for transmission shops around Wayneville/Asheville area?

3rd is a problem after it's about 2o years old. I drained one and put about a gallon of kerosene in it and let it sit for a couple of weeks, then drained and filled with 90 wt. Drove it a few hundred miles and drained and filled with 90 wt. again and never had a problem with it . It builds up junk on the syncro's and shafts and doesn't fully go into 3rd is what i've been told. Try it, it might work for you as well. Beats pulling the heavy ba@&%%$ out!

Sounds like wore bearings/spacers causing excess end play which results in gears flexing thus popping out of gear. Pulling out that heavy thing is the only really challenge to rebuild it. Look over the pirate post, you should be able to do it. Best prices for kits I've found are Anahiem Gear and Novak adapters. I highly recommend Pat at Anahiem. And be sure to get the upgraded spacers.
