I am currently rebuilding the front suspension on my heep. Everything is looking good, but my driveshaft hits the transmission. This is nothing new but with the old axle the pumpkin was further out so it didn't hit as bad. Sure I could unclock the dana 300 so the shaft is always below the 727, but what fun would that be. So my question is...

How the f*&k do you make a two piece driveshaft? My thought was to cut down two yokes from the junkyard. Sleave them with some DOM and make sure that before welding I put a pillowblock inbetween. Then bolt up the pillowblock. Shorten my existing front and press in new u joints.

I have used a ford two piece driveshaft in the front of my chevy for about 8 years with no problem and it still has the original carrier bearing. I also run dual slip yokes on the front part of the shaft to give it more travel. good luck

Yup.. But I think he wants to do it 'on the cheap', and while it was a very fair price for the unit, it wasn't 'cheap' :p

Well I am not trying to go really cheap. I am already 5k into this buildup so another couple hundred isn't going to kill me. I would prefer to do it on the cheap and make sure it will work. Then I could spring for a nice shaft.

Sounds like alot of work to go through before you have one made.

I faxed my measurements in a sketch to Universal, and they had it done in a day or so. What's your time worth? :D
