I have a 78 CJ7 with the short axles, I would like to have more width because I think it would help with stability (and looks). I don't have the money right now to do a full axle swap, just looking for something to get me through the next year and a half or so until I can afford a full axle swap. The CJ is a secondary vehicle that I mainly drive locally in town and some highway with occasional moderate trail riding at Uwharrie.

Has anyone had much experience with 2" wheel spacers?

always seemed like a lot of leverage on the wheel bearings to me. I think with the money you would spend on the spacers you could be half way there to put a yj suspension under.

check your wheel bearings regularly if you do spacers.

Wheel bearings would wear faster but the biggest issue you will have is steering wander. Your steering wheel will jerk more when you hit pot holes. Do a little reading on scrub radius and you'll have a good understanding of the effects on your front end. In a rock crawler that doesnt see street use or has hydro assist or full hydro it's not a big of an issue.

Anyone know if Joe still has this '78?

He hasn't been logged on here in a long time.
