I bought a 2000 Cherokee with a blown head , I pulled head found a cracked piston.

I bought a motor from Dennis off here (xjfiles) the motor was in a wreck but runs like a damn top( well it did before we pulled it )

Same year model

All sensors are the same

I cleaned intake

It sounds like the timing is way off

I have set the timing by

Setting #1 to tdc on firing stroke
Setting camshaft position sensor to Haynes manual specs at tdc

Pulling oil drive assembly and setting it to Haynes manual specs

Setting oil pump gear to 11oclock before reinstalling.

It is back firing out of intake.
It's flooding if I try to crank to long

I have tested. Crankshaft sensor
I have swapped cam shaft sensor
I have swapped coil packs
I searched high and low for unplugged grounds

I have not Tried new plugs yet , goin to try that tomorrow morning

I would swap throttle position sensor just to be sure. Although it sounds like the timing if 180 off.

Yeah but it has to be on the firing stroke. You said you had it on the firing stroke but I would double and triple check. It can get confusing. Not 100% 0 is TDC either. I'm sure someone will chime in shortly who knows more than me.

1- remove #1 plug, stick finger in hole, rotate engine till you feel compression, line up timing mark on harmonic balancer with mark on timing cover. You are now #1 TDC compression stroke (I think you are 180* off)
2- There is a hole on the side of the oil pump drive that lines up with a corresponding hole in the vane that rotates through the cam sensor. Stick an 1/8" drill bit through that hole. This will lock the oil pump drive/ cam sensor into place.
3- Turn oil pump (with a flat head screw driver) in the block to approx 10 o'clock and drop the oil pump drive in until it is flush with the block. The cam sensor should be pointing towards the rear of the Jeep (connector parallel to block)
4- Tighten the 13mm hold down bolt, remove drill bit and fire it up.

This will 100% ensure the timing is accurate to start.

So do I want my finger to suck into the sparkplug hole or do I want air to be blowing by my finger?
