A friend of mine recently bought a 2000 LX470 and has since had suspension issues.
I haven't seen it, but he took it to a local shop (He lives in Carolina Beach) and he says the hydraulic lines and shocks are shot, and the shop told him it would be cheaper to buy a 2.5" lift kit and swap out the factory suspension than to replace it because they couldn't find the parts for less than $1000.

Considering the design and comfort he had (and enjoyed) of the factory suspension, I hate to see him throw it away for a much simpler suspension, but based on some minor googling I have found the factory suspension to be rather troublesome and faulty.

I'm completely unfamiliar with these vehicles and figured I would see if anyone on here had any advice.

Thanks.

Swap the active height control springs and struts for Land Cruiser parts, or parts from an LX470 that doesn't have the active height control, including the correct torsion bars (the active height control bars are lower spring rate). No need for a lift kit, all the parts are available from the factory, and I think the ride will be a lot better with OEM-replacement parts instead of lift kit parts.

I'm probably oversimplifying what is required, but I know the conversion is very common for those trucks.

Active height control is cool, until the car is 17 years old and expensive stuff starts failing. That's the reason people sell them, and then your friend buys it...

Fair enough. Then hes doing the right thing. He ordered a 2.5" Old Man Emu Kit to replace the factory gear.

Thanks for the response.
