I have a 2000 TJ (4.0) and I'm having issues with my engine Idling around 500-550rpm's when it gets warmed up. This also creates a problem when I'm coming to a stop and my engine drops back into idle, it will drop below 500 and get real rough as if its about to cut out. I'm thinking I may have a crapped up Throttle Position sensor, I was wondering if anyone has had this problem and could maybe offer some insight on how I can bring my idling speed back up to where it needs to be.

IAC (idle air control) would be the first thing I clean. It controls the idle of the engine, not the TPS. It's right there on the throttle body with the TPS.

Whats the best way to clean it? Remove throttle body completely (and replace the throttle body gaskets) or could I just remove the sensor and clean it individually?

Take it out of the TB. Spray the plunger with carb cleaner. Gently push the plunger into the body of the IAC, but only about 1/8". Spray the plunger again, expecially at the base. Reinstall. Good luck.

No sir, I hear TJ's dont like to throw up codes until they are on their death beds haha, unfortunately I cleaned off the IAC today and haven't
seen a rise in Idle Speed....any other ideas??
