just got a tj & the fans not working.
checked fuses looks good?
my dad had a durango with similar problems.
something about a fusable link somewhere???
he could not think of the cure.
have not had time to look at it closely.
thanks for any help in advance.

chances are the fan switch itself has burned out.The switch isn't rated for the amperage pull of the motor so it will drop a speed at a time till all are out.I suffered with mine having only one speed for 2 years and then replaced it.Go to the jeep dealership and get one.I believe the switch was around 30 dollars.

not tryng to steal this post so if this is illegal just let me know.my heater wont change from def to anything untill i let off the gas and then it goes back to def.can anyone give me an idea where to look for the (vacume?)problem?

The common place fot the vacuum line to come off or crack is near the battery somewhere. I can't say exactly where since I've not had the problem yet.

Last winter my 2000 TJ would only blow out the vents and no defrost. The switch on the HVAC control panel that switches from defrost to vents to floor vents had quit working. It is a vacuum switch and an electric switch. You can't buy just that switch though, you have to buy the entire HVAC control panel. I think it is moparpartsamerica.com or something like that is where I bought mine from. Best price I could find and I called them up and they were nice on the phone too.

well i checked in the dash. there is a 3 wire plug over near the vacuum switch
the middle wire is toasted, you can see it heated up back in the harness too.
i read somewhere about grounding problems in the harness, and this looks like it may be trying to ground thru the wrong path.
any ideas.....to wet out there to mess with it now.
i did get the motor to run on high.
anybody know if there is a wiring diagram posted anywhere..
thanks greg

I have a Haynes manual for the TJ's I will look tonight and see if I can find the diagram you need and scan it into the computer for you.

thanks i was reading some more on it and i think that connector has something to do with ac compressor????? saw an article about installing a switch to control ac like on toyotas.
some of these other forums are so large it is hard to keep up with all the posts.
just sold a YJ and don't have a book for the TJ yet
thanks

My switch in my 04 has gotten to where if I change it from defrost to vent it stays on defrost for a little bit then slowly changes to the new setting. I'm assuming that would be vaccum related also? Possibly in the lines or the switch itself?

yeah check for leaks
mine is whistling a little every now and then.
there is a bunch of lines on that selector switch.
I still haven't had a chance to really get down there and check everything out on mine.
either its 20 degrees and windy or 60 and raining

My 99 Tj had the burnt wire on the vent control switch this summer. The blower fan over currented the circuit and burnt the ground wire at the connector. I had to replace the blower motor ($60 on e-bay) and the fan speed resistor (only had high speed, which bypasses speed control resistor ) thats under glove box, and put new connectors at back of control switch.

The electrical connector that is attached to the vacuum switch is what turns on the A/C compressor. My connector burned up and I had to replace the controls too. I couldn't find another connector, and besides, another connector would have just melted again anyway, so I added a toggle switch to turn the A/C compressor on and off.

More advice because I've already went thru these same problems with my TJ...Get a subscription to alldatadiy.com for your TJ instead of buying a crappy Haynes manual.

great info.
seems like it would blow a fuse before building up that much heat?
and seems like there needs to be a recall.
gonna take a look at that resistor next and maybe the motor itself.
maybe fool with the brushes???
over all i like the TJ and i really liked the YJ but it is a whole new game here.
thanks

update

update on (vacume???) leak. the leak was under the dash at the factory splice,it was not tight at all sloppy fit=leak.
