I have a 2000 wrangler when you take off with it it will only go in 1st then you have to shift so on til drive once it's in drive it's fine the check engine light came on after that p0740 I took it to a transmission shop he told me that the torque converter is locked up took it to another he said code is saying torque converter ain't no good. it's an automatic transmission

Yep I appreciate that. Phone was sabotaging me trying t to text 3 diffrent mechanics and as ask a question on here. Ill let you know how it turns out.

Probably the governor solenoid and lockup solenoid went out if the fluid wasn't nasty. (Assuming it's electronically controlled the same way like the 42/44/46/47/48re, which I believe they are)

It's possibly the converter relating to the p0740, however, that will not create the problems with it automatically shifting. If your converter was locked up solid, it would act similar to a manual transmission with the clutch let up most the time.

Replaced torque converter. Drives and shifts like a new Jeep. Doesn't make much sense to me. I appreciate yalls help
