So I have a 2000 XJ with a new, used motor. Ran fine when I was driving it home but its been sitting for about a month because it has no tags. I drove it around the house yesterday and the CEL came on, so I took it to advance to be read, came back as P0455. Driving home my windshield started to fog up and I realized exhaust was coming in through the vents right in front of the windshield. I looked around the engine bay and underneath but didnt see anything. Anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

The dreaded 0455. Charcoal canister, EGR valve, EGR solenoid, cracked vacuum line underhood, cracked vacuum line under the truck, bad gas cap, etc. That's all I can remember off the top of my head that people seem to have found that cause this code. One that has popped up a few times seems to be a long stretch of vacuum line that runs under the vehicle. I haven't dug into mine yet. The funny thing with mine now is I can't clear the code at all anymore. I run the "clear" function on either of my scanners and immediately rescan it, and it's still there. Not only that, but all of the readiness monitors are set! That shouldn't happen! Good luck, and let us know what you find!

That & the small size leak, very small leak come and go on mine. I found a cracked hose on the intake manifold once & fixed that. Tired of looking. Might just be a jeep thing.

So I am starting to think that there are two separate problems here, unless the exhaust leaking everywhere would trigger the code. Where did you go flyn to get it tested?

i went to a place here in charlotte called woodies auto. i have a buddy that is a service writer so he knocked a few dollars off. there are ways to make your own smoke tester at home for a little less. I searched and seached for my evap leak (small) and it turned out to be a hairline split near the evap can

For anyone who is curious, all the smoke inside was from the heater core that decided to start leaking and the evap leaks were comming from the throttle body and vacuum connectors on the intake manifold
