My mothers impala has around 155,xxx miles and just starting having additional issues. They had to replace the head gasket a couple thousand miles ago. The issues it has now is listed below...
-No power during acceleration. Can barely make it up a hill. Revs fine all the way up to reline in park. Slow boggy acceleration. Seems like there is something clogged somewhere. *** Took to muffler shop and checked the cat. IT doesn't need replaced. Also, inspected the maf sensor which appeared to be spotless.***
-Sounds like it has an aftermarket intake system under acceleration which it doesn't and is noticeably loud inside vehicle while driving. ***Checked for disconnected hoses etc and nothing came up***
-Temp gauge moves around erratically. It bounces around all over the place constantly. From dead cold to 1 mark before hell on gauge. ***Checked to see if car was over heating and it wasn't when the temp gauge was in the red. Also, checked overflow for bubbles and didnt see any. It is slowly losing coolant but no leaks that i can see anywhere. I replaced the temp sensor which had no affect.
-Gas milage is horrible. I put $10 of gas in her car which moved it almost to the half mark and drove it around 15-20 miles and its on empty now.
***The check engine light is not on whatsoever which in this case, i wish it was kind of. Even took it to get checked anyways and no codes. Things i have done since looking into trying to fix her car was replaced the temp sensor and got the cat checked out. Im ruling out fuel filter because it seems to be drinking enough already. I have read that the cats and intake gaskets are a common problem with these cars and right now I'm really leaning towards the intake gasket. Could the gasket cause the problems i listed above? Never had to mess with getting them replaced. Why am i not pulling codes? Also, i unplugged the egr valve sensor and purge valve sensor which was recommended on a similar problem that had the same symptoms and it fixed that persons car but not this one. No CEL even after i unplugged them. Im just trying to get a few ideas so i don't go into a mechanic blind. I will be fixing this car for her and that means i will be paying the bill. Any recommendations will be helpful, thanks.
