2005 TJ with automatic trans, I want to to lift it but I don't want to loose too much as far as gas mileage, does anyone have ideas as far as tire sizes which lifts kits would hold up the best and more importantly which is the cheapest? I appreciate the input!

Give us some of your plans for the Jeep. Whats kind of wheeling is it going to see, Or will it be mostly street.

You can be anywhere between a 1.75'' budget coil spacer lift ($200~) to a complete 4'' lift ($2000~) depending on what your needs are and how you plan to use it. Lifting it and putting larger tires on it is going to hurt fuel mileage regardless of what lift you get. So be ready to lose some of the MPG. Of course the smaller the tire and lift the better the MPGs will be.

More info will help us point you in the right direction.

Dont forget gears too

I mostly want to go mudding play in the sand not to crazy about rocks and such but then again I've never tried it never know. I'm more of the casual off roader until I get it paid off then I plan to loose my mind and do everything lol

You can get a budget lift from RE

And easily run 33 inch tires with out a issue.

This is by far the cheapest lift. But suited for what your wanting to do. You can alway upgrade in the future and your not out too much money.

I have a 3.25 rough country on mine. Mine has the auto tranny with od like yours, 32's are the max I would go on the auto without a regear. Mine shifts in and out of OD constantly, I always run with it off, that being said it isn't terrible with it off.

Here is the 2.5

Another option is a virtual lift. Companies like Gen-right have kits to allow for bigger tires with no lift at all, or a little if you want really big tires. This allows you to keep everything stock in the suspension and your on road characteristics would remain the same as they are now. Fwiw, if these were available when I built my TJ, I'd have gone this way.

2" teraflex budget boost, 1" daystar body, 33's. $200-$300 plus a set of tires. Simple, cheap, it'll keep your factory ride quality and let you do some light wheeling.
