My wife's 2007 Commander when you drive it the first mile or 2 it feels like its in 4wd. Hard to turn on dry pavement. It has the quadradrive 2 system. It has 100000 miles on it. What could be causing this? Thanks for any help.

It is hard to turn. Like turning a jeep wrangler on dry pavement in 4wd. The commander has a traction control system.

Maybe a wheel speed sensor going bad?

If possible, put front on jackstands and turn wheels. Could be steering rack or power steering pump. Could also be low power steering fluid.

If none of these work, them it could be your cv's. They could be binding when turning.

Power steering fluid is OK. Also it only does this when it has not been driven for a few hours. Once it warms up it drive great.

Good chance the front differential carrier (posi) is "bound" up. You could try to service the front diff in an attempt to free it up. Otherwise, you'll need a new front carrier. I have experienced this a few times in the past.

I had a Commander on 35"s and beat the poop out of it, check 1. Front drive shaft bearings, they are mercedes shafts and have bearings on them I had to replace my driveshaft due to similar problem there is a boot use a flashlight to look 2. Take a look at the CV shaft if they are spitting grease 2. Check the busing on top of the housing it could bind up causing nasty steering 3. When you get in to start it hold down the traction control button until it rings on the dashboard it should show that the traction control was turned off called "ESP".

OK with esp off it goes away. I just bought the gear oil so I'll change it and see what happens.

I would highly recommend not changing the gear oil until you have the ECU flashed for the ESP unit. There was a recall for this unit: The ESP has to do with computer control of the traction system. This is all electrical...the gear oil should be fine. You get the wheel lock up because the wheel speed sensor and the traction control are not communicating correctly.

Update I checked and the vehicle had been flashed already. I changed the fluid and it fixed it.
