Thanks to all the wonderful people on here we finally settled on a truck and found one that matched 99% of our wants. 2017 Ford F-450 6.7 King Ranch. 192K Miles. $35k. Had every feature we wanted and then some. The only feature not on the truck that we would have liked (but wasn't a deal breaker) was rear heated seats since our suburban had them. Drove down to Jacksonville and after waiting around all day for the bank to fund the account and transfer the money. I got the suburban loaded up and towed it back to the house. Aside from the trailer (a buddy's not mine) not having a long enough whip for the harness to reach the truck, and the suburban being too long for the trailer to load up the tongue weight properly.... The truck towed great! More than enough stopping power even without the trailer brakes and cruised great as long as I stayed below 60 (trailer started to sway from weight being too far back.)
Truck already has wireless air ride installed, deeper oil pan and transmission pan, Amsoil dual-remote oil bypass kit. Banks air intake/pedal monster/derringer/super dash. Weatherguard toolbox. B&W Gooseneck, centramatic wheel balancers, brand new Michelin Agelis Tires on all corners. SPE Motorsport 6.7L Powerstroke CCV Reroute Kit with Internal Catch Can, Upper Radiator Hose, Hot Side Intercooler Pipe, Oil Pan with Oil Heater, and Cold Side Pipe. All emissions still intact. Some room for improvements for sure but a great setup from the start.
First mods we are looking at are the SPE CAT under bed fuel filter setup to get away from the filter in the engine bay. And a SPE Disaster Prevention Kit. Looking at some quality of life upgrades too, tonneau cover, possibly a different toolbox OR separate camera for the gooseneck, Wireless phone charger/android auto dongle. Weathertech floor mats, etc.
If anybody has any suggestions to help turn this into a great reliable tow rig, I'd love to hear them!
