This has been our family vehicle for the past 9 years. We bought it new. I think it's in great shape, but I may be biased. Even though it's in great shape, it is 9 years old, has 186,000 miles, and has survived a young child and a dog.
The good:
-We've done every suggested service on this vehicle. Mostly at Modern Toyota in Boone. I have a stack of service records if you're interested.
-Newer tires
-Battery is less than 2 years old
-Everything works
The bad:
-It has 186,000 miles
-The stitching has come out a little in the driver's seat, small opening
-The door closers feel worn out, it takes minimal effort to close the doors, you'll more than likely slam them not knowing this
-It's survived a now 9 year old kid, and a now 6 year old dog
-I didn't know about this until I started Googling values, but apparently this year Highlander is known for bad transmissions, we haven't had any issues, all recommended maintenance has been done
-Small tick/rattle coming from what I think is the water pump maybe? Doesn't lose coolant, doesn't overheat, given the age it might be something like a water pump
-It has been in a couple of small bump ups, garage door, deer, etc - all fixed by professional body shop and insurance
