(1985 toyota)got everything installed and put back together today. went to go start the truck it would turn over but not start so i had a friend pull me up the road and it started and ran but ran really rough. i couldn't rev it from the carb at all, my header started glowing and the exhaust had alot more back pressure than it normally does. we marked the timing chain and cam gear and they got put back in the same spot. Any help would be appreciated. We think the timing is retarded, but I wasn't sure if being off 1 tooth could make it run this bad, we are also going to double check the distributor out tomorrow as well, so maybe both of those things put together could have made it act that way??? Thanks for the help!

Did you check the timing with a timeing light? Did you move the dis.?

No we didn't check with a light but we made marks on everything and put everything back the way it came out...the only thing that I think could be off is the distributor...but could that make it run that bad?

Alright thanks man, we will check that out first thing tomorrow, but also what do you think the deal is with the throttle? It wouldn't rev the engine at all even when we did open the butterfly valves, think this could be caused by the dist. being off as well??

It's late, your right. It would a spark timing issue with the dis. and yes it will make the header glow and not run when you open the butterflies.

Sounds like you're off more than one tooth also...if its 1 it would run funny but wouldn't act that bad, at least on a efi it wouldnt.
