My 84 4runner I've been fixing up and using as a daily driver broke down on me Tuesday. I've been having assorted overheating issues. I replaced the thermostat last Wednesday as well as replacing all the heater hoses.
Truck drove fine until Friday morning it was spewing coolant when I got to work. Found out the soft hose under the intake manifold had ruptured and emptied all the coolant. Got a ride home and I replaced that Monday and drove it home from work. All seemed well until Tuesday I started to work and I could smell coolant. Pulled over and it was overheating. I'm guessing maybe the block was frozen. Not sure how because I'd been adding antifreeze not water every time I worked on it.
So now it's puffing white smoke out the exhaust like a steam engine ,soooo I think I blew a head gasket or worse maybe. My question is what's the right way to fix this. Just throw a new head gasket on? Have the head checked? Buy a new head? Rebuilt the entire engine?
