Im working on a buddies truck that is a 1985 22r running a fuel cell. He just started having trouble with stalling out after 4000rpm in second and dying in third. If you take it easy and keep it under 2300rpm it will run fine through the gears. He recently changed the fuel filter and saw no results. Once in the top three high end gears at wind open throttle it just dies. It does have a tendency to back fire when you let out of the throttle. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

does the fuel cell have foam in it ?

does it have a cat on it? check fuel pressure. not all after market pumps will put enough pressure. also the foam comes apart so put a filter before the pump makes sure the pump dont get ruined by the foam.

It does have n inline filter that he changed not to long ago. The cat has been gutted. Going to check the fuel pump this morning

The foam will clog the pickups in the cell, too.

Could also be a pinched vent line for the cell. Took me about 2 hours of wheeling before I figured mine was pinched by the 5 gallon can I strapped to it.
