Whats the best way to get some more power out of a 22r? I have a weber but im looking to get a header also looking to do internal work if i can get decent power out of it.
thanks

DOA racing is local and good.

They do have some nice stuff, but I had their chain/tensioner/guides in my engine and the tensioner went out at only 5000 miles. Because I wasn't the one to purchase it originaly (I had the original owner to try to get it warrantied) they wouldn't do anything. It was supposed to be a lifetime warranty on the parts, but I ended up putting in a Carquest kit and all is good now.

Back to what you wanted to know.....a cam, better carb, header and exhaust are all good starting points if you don't want to go into the engine right away. If you decide you do, do your homework as there are lots of go fast parts for these engines and they work. I'm on 35's with stock gearing and I can pull 65 fairly easily on the roads around here. I have a cam, Weber and Thorley header with 2.25 exhaust.

Turbo and Propane worked for me.

If you don't mind spending some money, call Tim a DOA and talk to him about a head. That is the only thing that will wake that motor up. I built one with a C270 cam, DOA head(ported and polished with bigger valves), Doug Thorley header and it was the quickest N/A 22r I've done. That thing would scream. If you don't go the route with the head, go with a DOA cam and a Thorley header. The stock ignition has more than enough power to send spark down. A 2.25 exhaust also helps it exhale better. The head, some kind of forced induction or both is the only way to make noticable power gains.

Ditto on headers and 2.25" exhaust - I have the LCE header, freeflow cat (Catdaddy?) and muffler and pretty happy w/ it. That plus Suprs 3" inlet AFM helped alot but that's for EFI.
Also LCE has a cool adjustable cam timing sprocket, so you can set the cam timing 2 deg advanced, this helps a bit as well.

I believe it can be stroked up to 2.6l but that's gets spendy pretty fast. Ted ("engnbldr") has alot of posts about this on some of the other Toy boards, his shop cranks out lots of these in Cali.

22r bottom end 20r head with valves out of the 22r head , small cam from lc engineering and a holley 350 carb or motorcraft 390 cfm on a 20r intake where you cut and weld the flange to mount the carb and a header.
