:usa::usa:Hey,
New here..I know a fair amount about these motors and Toyota's in general. My concern is that I am torn between building this motor or just getting it running. I have found a rebuild set with pistons, rings, t-cover and gaskets, head gasket set, etc...a typical rebuild kit for anywhere between 190-300 for cheap ones.
Does anyone have any experience with non-Toyota parts?

Does anyone have any knowledge or can suggest any aftermarket companies that might be worth buying from?

i used an enginebuilder.com kit with an rv cam, i have been happy with the way it runs. they are fairly inexpensive and seem to have good parts.

Use the cheap kit and go buy a TOYOTA head gasket. This will hold up alot better in the long run IMO.

X3 on Toyota head gasket, also got timing set from them, I got everything else from Import Auto in Winston. I wouldn't worry about a timing cover unless it has a hole it. If you need a good used one PM me.

Also if you're replacing the timing chain guides, use the metal backed ones. Not sure if enginebuilders set has those or the plastic ones, but you want the metal ones

FYI it's "engnbldr" and x-whatever on using his kits, they are a good price - and he has the netal-backed guides, do NOT bother with the stock plastic ones.

Thanks ppls I actually..to get the process movin I got all the parts from autozone and valves from worldpac...she's runnin but has a small stumble and dont know what it is yet..thinkin wires or possible valves..havent done an adjustment after warming her up.

Question: my truck when i put it in 4low and ease off the clutch the truck doesnt wanna budge really and i burned up my clutch a bit tryin to go up a hill..anyone know of any common issues with that

i had the same prob with my 4runner till i did the SAS and matched the gears. not exactly sure if i had mixed gears cause i never checked the front clam but thats what it adds up to be.
