22re injectors leaking?

89 4Runner w/ 22re.
Sat a long time, only cranked up occasionally, taken around the block and re-parked...
Well this Fall I finally got other things fixed up and all ready to be street worthy, and BAM noticed gas dripping on P-side... doh... looks like leakage around #2 and 3 injectors. It's not squirting out or anything but I can see the drip lines down the side of the block and it's moist around them. Steady enough drip under it that it is notable.

I replaced the seals when I rebuilt the motor but that was like a decade ago, lol.

Wondering if maybe the seals dried out/rotted while it was sitting? not 2 weeks before this started, I emptied the tank (nasty) and replaced w/ good clean fresh gas, so I kinda wonder if that did it too?

And it's been awhile - I assume to get them out, I have to take out the top half of the intake plenum and remove the whole fuel rail right?
 
X2 on the seal glide I get mine at the local napa we use it on everything including the o rings in the fire hose at the firehouse
 
Finally pulled the intake and fuel rail apart. Hard to wait for a nice day, so I could work w the garage door open... Gas fumes etc...

And wow these rings were toast, see pic. I guess the old gas just ate iem up.

As long as they're out, figure I might IMG_20160306_135612.jpg as well send off for a good cleaning and flow test.
Read good things about Withhunter, any other recommended folks?

I was thinking a lubricant intended for moistening silicone rings, e.g. keep them from drying out, but most of what I've finding are general lubes USING silicone for things like brake parts etc you want to keep sliding easily.

RC Engineering for cleaning and flow testing as well. I've used them but it's been more than a decade ago..

If you're specifically looking for O-ring lube, Parker and Loctite make the best in the business. I've always used it because that's what I have around, but something like NAPA Sil-Glyde (already mentioned) is fine because you're going to remove a lot of it with the fuel anyway. Mostly it's to prevent the O-ring from getting pinched or chafed during install and during sealing compression, so anything that can serve that purpose and not chemically harm the O-ring is generally fine. O-rings drying out is a different story, and is not a problem that O-ring lube is intended to solve...

You must have got some really crappy O-rings, or the wrong material or whatever. Maybe yours aren't compatible with ethanol, and deteriorated from the ethanol and then being dry for a long time. Maybe you got Buna instead of Viton...?

Well I put those rings on in... maybe 2004? So it's not like they were new. This is the first time there's been an issue. I'm assuming it's related to sitting so long. And really it didn't come up until I had flushed out the old tank and addded fresh gas and run it awhile.
 
I had witch hunter do the injectors in my 95 pickup a couple years ago. One of mine started leaking about 10k miles after the rebuild. I replaced all of the orings with parts from the local dealer and that was about 70k miles ago. I don't know if it was his oring or my error in installation.
 
Dadgummit.
Finally got some free time this weekend and put it back together. Coated the rings in lube. Fired it up and holy shitmonkey, gas everywhere.:eek:
First, didn't tighten the banjo bolt on the cold start injector enough... that was simple...
but #1 injector was spewing big-time right at the rail connection.

A little profanity, pulled it all apart again... discovered the ring was kind of bunched up and torn. Like it didn't seat right when shoving it in.
OK, fine. Just happens I had an extra set of rings. Lubed it, popped on, but had the damnest time getting the thing to fit back into the hole in the rail. Really tight, much more so than the other three.
Finally w/ a little more profanity - but trying to be careful that it was going in straight, just rotating a little to get it to slide in - got it seated.
Had my son give the ignition a couple bumps before putting the whole intake back on... no leaks... then noticed I had forgotten to attach the ignition wire on that injector... when I pressed it in, it wiggle slightly and started spewing. Touching it more just made it worse.
FML. Pulled it out, yep, the ring was a bit bunched up and partially torn,.

WTF am I missing? Is there some sort of special ninja voodoo magic to seating it I'm missing? Never had this problem before.

Good question, but no.
When I popped the 2nd one on, it felt overall just a little bigger that it needed to be, like it was awfully easy to slip on and had more slack than I'd expect. It was actually a different brand form the first set (first were Fel Pro, second was... can't recall).
After some Googling I'm finding a lot of folks suggest the OEMs.
I guess this is a case where manufacturing tolerance really counts. I may see if I can swing by my local dealer and get a set from them to compare.

I chose not to do the send-off cleaning, instead set up my own jig w/ a battery, a syringe and some cleaner. I know it's not teh same but I could see a difference in spray pattern afterwards so it did something...
But now I'm kind of wishing I'd sent it off if for no reason other than coming back w/ the right rings.
