my 22 re motor in the truck i just bought. it has a noise in the top end.its has petty good power and runs good.it has 220,000 miles . what thing should i do to fix this sound. to me its sounds like valves chattering.any help on this motor or thing i should do. i am give it a tune up week end and change the oil.
let me know:driver:

Check the timing chain and guide. Adjust the valves. Welcome to the toyota tick. I think most 22res have the tick.

^What he said. Check the valve lash, check the timing chain and guides, check the exhaust manifold bolts/gaskets. If it's all good buy better speakers. I have new valves, freshly machined head, new timing set, new exhaust manifold, and I have a few ticks, and a seemingly unfixable exhaust leak. It's not a 22RE it's a lifestyle...lol

thanks. this is my 2nd toyota truck. it was a 79 4x4, i loved it i had it about two years, never had to do anything to it. it ran good and had the balls to pull a 22 ft camper,loaded down with stuff the 9 miles up in the mtns in north idaho. i loved that truck.this one is on its way to being 4x4,it was whell drive bofoe i did a SAS last week end. i have a build tread. my wife is the one that unloads the pics so i have to wait for her to do it.soon
