I've blown another intake gasket in the same spot as the first one, right at the tstat housing. I know the first time I had the crankcase pressurized and wrote it off to that? Since then I blew a head gasket and put on an RE head. This time it was boosted and the temp was at 180. Fixing it isn't much of an issue unless you're on top of a mountain outside Harlan KY:mad:. I'm lost as to how to prevent this from happening again though. 12pk of your favorite adult beverage on me if you figure this out;)
I'm taking this to Moab soon and can't have this happening out there.

yea check the intake with a straight edge. or just take it to the machine shop
and have em mill it flat. iv'e seen that happen on na engines so having a little
boost just finds the weak spot quicker.

I've used a felpro and something else that came with the HG set I can't remember the name of. I already have a felpro to go back on it. I'm going to hand it off to my friend at M&E and have them mill it so that's out of the question. I honestly hope its warped to the naked eye when I get it off so this doesn't forever haunt me. If either of you ever do any business at M&E feel free to give Eric shit for me. He and I have been close friends since we were kids, roomates in the "golden" yrs of our early twentys :beer:

.....uh....I found a bolt hole in the intake right beside the/in the tstat housing that I had never noticed before. There has never been a bolt in that hole since I tore this engine down and rebuilt it. I'm betting that's my problem, doh! I took that bolt out of a parts engine I have(what a pita) and its 3x longer than the rest and very well hidden.

Just read this post and was about to say this very same thing. I missed placed this bolt myself when I did my crate engine on my rig. Had this long bolt left over and heard a vacuum leak when I got it running. Like you said it is hidden well with all the vacuum hoses and wiring on the intake. Glad you found the problem!
