231 SYE in a 241 ????

Building a YJ for the wife and gonna be running a Th400/241 behind a LS1,been pricing the sye's and the Jeep 231 is roughly $150 cheaper than the 241.Can anybody tell me the difference in the two besides the price??? Will the 231 sye work on a 241 w the mech speedo??? Can I use the 241 front 1/2 with the 231 back 1/2 and sye???

I don't think so but I think you can use the planetary gear set in the 241(6 gears) in the 231(3 gears). I'm pretty sure the case of the 241 is physically larger. I'm sure others will chime in.

it won't work, the 241 is larger and the support for the output shaft is designed differently. i have never tried it but just by memory i don't see the 2 interchanging.
