Currently in the process of trying to sway a NP242 into my ’93 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.2/auto. After numerous hours of searching on this forum, the MallCrawlin.com forum, and Google, thought I had this swap down pat…..the early and late gear cut, etc. WRONG! Got a 242 from a ’94ZJ, should have had the early gear cut that would allow me to swap the long input from the 249 into it. WRONG AGAIN! The gear cuts do not match. Apparently the 242 has the late gear cut.

So, here’s where I’m at – need a long input shaft with the ‘late’ gear cut and the narrow bearing.

Anyone know of any good parts sources in central NC area (Winston-Salem, Greensboro, Charlotte, etc) that might have a good used input?

Thanks, Paul

Pull-A-Part in Charlotte might have it. IIRC can't you use the front half of the 249 case and mate it to the back half of the 242 to make it work? Try searching about that.

I have seen forum posts on MallCrawlin.com discussing this option. However, it seems sort of hit and miss......some have had good success, some have taken 2 or three tries to get it togther correctly, some have given up.

Since this is my daily driver, whatever is done needs to have the highest probability for success.......obviously my success percentage is not too high now<G>.
