I need to remove the dipstick TUBE from this '81 Cherokee I've got. The tube is only about 4 inches long...any tricks to removing it without boogering it up?

Have you tried grabbing it and trying to pull it out, maybe give it a little twist? Sounds dumb, but I had the opposite problem, the tube would always come out with the dipstick. I had to booger up the end to get it to stay in.

I kinda grabbed at it the other day...seems to be in there pretty good

^ great idea and all, but mine isn't broken off. I just need to remove it without messing it up.

I always lightly grab them with a good set of vise grips and tap the pliers with a hammer, it should come right out. if not, you are not holding your tongue right.

this is what I'm working with...just below and behind the ignition coil.

***EDIT:
I was able to remove it with a pair of needle nose pliers
