So I got this '86 2WD yota pickup, 22R, and a 4 speed. I was wanting to get a 5 speed out of a similar truck and swap it to get a little better gas mileage. Question is, are there things other than the 5 spd its self that will be different? Would a need a drive shaft from a 5 spd truck too? Possibly cross member, slave cylinder, clutch? I would imagine the drive shaft may need to be changed but Idk about the other things.

Thanks for any help.

Def. driveshaft as tranny will be longer. Crossmember will prob need to move, may even be holes for it already. I just converted a RWD Corolla from auto to manual, the manual was a bit shorter, but the holes were already there (and tapped!)Toyota is good like that. I used the driveshaft from the 5spd car, and was ready to rock and roll. You might want to ck your rear end ratio though, I thought the 2wd 4spds had 3.07/3.08 gears. If that is true, I bet it wont PULL 5th gear if you do the swap. Is the milage suffering because its buzzing down the hwy, or some other reason, worn out carb, etc. ?
