I was curious to see if anyone on here had done this. I bought a set of runner wheels off of a man on here and he had done it but I lost his contact info. I was just curious as to whether you need the full conversion kit or if you could piece one together for less. Also, what is the issue with the tranny? My 22R is gonna have to be rebuilt soon so I thought this might could replace it. Any help would be appreciated!

i'm assuming you're talking about a 3.4 toyota swap in place of a 22r-it can be done, but the cost gets kinda high for a slight gain in power. a more popular swap is a gm 4.3 or 3.8-lower cost, better torque, and parts are everywhere.

Slight gain in power? Try twice the power (or more depending on how worn out your 22R is.) It's certainly doable, Probably a bit more $$ than going with a 4.3 but it keeps it all Yota if you're a purist. Try here for a kit.

Yes it can be done. Yes it is expensive. ORS has been closed since 08 so you can no longer buy a kit from them. Search google and Pirate there is tons of info on the swap and IIRC someone is now making or cutting down the harnesses like ORS used to. Usually you need at least a 1" body lift or a hood with a pretty substantial hood scoop to clear the tall 3.4 intake manifold.

IMO I'd just get a newer Vortec 4.3, get a bellhousing from Advance Adapters if you want to keep the Toyota trans and t case and have Jim's performance cut down the harness and re flash the ECU.

yes, compared to a worn-out 22r, a 3.4 is almost double the power, but a newer gm v6 gives even more hp with better low end torque-for even less $$. i've been into enough newer yota v6's lately, imho, they get expensive really fast to put back together and really aren't worth the time or $$ compared to the gm alternatives.

I already have the motor. Does that make a difference?

Read the link I posted about the difference between manual and auto trans, I personally think it'd be a worthwhile swap especially since you already have the engine.

The article says to have a motor from a manual truck as well. I guess that I'm out.
